CBD oil is becoming the medicine of choice for some people who suffer from conditions that result in seizures, especially those who have not responded to so-called conventional treatment. Many anecdotal accounts exist of people witnessing great success in themselves or their children whilst using CBD oil in order to manage seizures, and scientific studies are bolstering these claims.
One paper published in the Journal of Pharmacology documents a study that administered CBD to subjects that suffered from convulsions, and were still taking anti-epileptic drugs that seemed to no longer control the symptoms of a disease. Throughout the study, 4 out of 8 of the subjects remained almost free of convulsions throughout the experiment and 3 others noticed an improvement in their clinical condition. The authors of the study conclude that CBD has a potential use as an antiepileptic drug.
As well as being used in isolation as a multifaceted medicine, CBD may also be able to be used in conjunction with smoked THC heavy strains in order to stave off some of the negative side effects that some people experience after smoking too much weed. A scientific paper published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry explains, “The few studies that exist on the effects of CBD show that this cannabinoid can counteract some of the negative effects of THC, although their results have not always been consistent.”
Some of the common negative experiences often reported from dosing too much THC include anxiety and paranoia, and inexperience and a new or foreign environment may exaggerate this. However, CBD has been shown in certain cases to reduce the anxiety-inducing effects of THC by around half.
